White Flag

A son was born in a godly family. When he grew up he left his parents and went away with his evil friends. He was arrested and put in the jail along with his friends. And because of this he brought great shame to his family.

One day when he was in the jail he remembered his parents and his heart was filled with sorrow. From the jail he wrote a letter to his parents saying, “My beloved father and mother, I have brought great sorrow to you and shame to our family. Please forgive me and receive me back into your family. If you are willing, please hang a white flag on the tree, which is in front of our house. When I am released from the jail I will come in the train which passes by our house. When I see the white flag on the tree, I will get down from the train and come home. But if I don’t see any flag on the tree I will not get down from the train, but go on to some other place.”

On one particular day he was released from the jail. He got into the train, and when it came near his village he looked at his house through the window. The tree in front of his house was completely covered with a large number of white flags. On seeing this he was touched by the love of his parents and started weeping.

If our earthly parents can have this kind of love towards an evil son, how great will be the love of our heavenly father toward us.

He has not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward them that fear Him. (Psa.103: 10,11) But God commends His love toward us in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Rom.5: 8) For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3: 16)

Without understanding this love of God, have you gone far away from Him? Are you anxious and sorrowful because of your burden of sin? If Satan is telling you that you are a great sinner and God will not forgive you, do not be deceived by the words of Satan. Look up at the innumerable number of stars, which are shining in the sky. Consider them as the white flags of God. However great a sinner you may be, God wants to forgive you and make you His child.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way, and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. (Isa.53: 6) Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures and …He rose again the third day… (1Cor.15: 3,4) If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1John 1: 9) But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the children of God, even to them that believe on His name. (John 1: 12)

This is the good news of the love of God. The wages of sin in death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord. (Rom.6: 23) Any one who rejects this great love of God, can never, by any means, be saved from eternal punishment. As it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment… (Heb.9: 27)

He that believes on Him is not condemned; but he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. He that believes on the Son has everlasting life; and he that believes not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him. (John 3: 18,36) Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved, and your house. (Acts 16: 31)
